When we talk about keeping children safe, our thoughts often turn to car seats, helmets, and healthy meals. Yet a child’s mental well-being is every bit as vital.
As Kate Middleton has wisely said, “A child’s mental health is just as important as their physical health and deserves the same quality of support.”
In my work training future early childhood educators at Texarkana College, I emphasize that fostering mental health in young children begins with everyday interactions. Teachers and parents can create a nurturing environment by following a few key guidelines: 1. Reduce Overwhelming Expectations Children need room to grow at their own pace. Setting unrealistic standards can create stress and anxiety. Instead of pushing for perfection, appreciate each child for who they are. Celebrate small accomplishments and unique personalities.
