New Boston man sentenced to 60 years for sexual assault

The jury found a New Boston man guilty of having sexual relations with a minor and sentenced him to 60 years in prison in a Bowie County courtroom Thursday.

Jashun Riley, 33, listened to the six men and six women of the jury read out a guilty verdict on three counts of sexual assault of a child Thursday afternoon. Later that evening, the jury came back to hand down the maximum sentence on each charge.

Fifth District Judge Bill Miller ruled the sentences would run consecutively.

Each count was a second degree felony which carried a sentence of two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The jury listened to Riley’s victim recount how she had her first interaction with him when he sent her a message on SnapChat when she was 15-years-old. Through conversations on SnapChat, an initial meetup and the sexual assault began

The victim said Riley supplied her with marijuana, offered alcohol and then had sexual intercourse with her between 2022 and 2023.

Riley will face additional charges for a second victim who provided testimony in the case to Riley’s pattern of behavior at a later date.

The two victims sat beside each other holding hands as the sentence was read aloud.

Assistant District Attorney Katie Carter represented the state. Tabitha Branch of Conway, Arkansas, was hired to represent Riley.
