If you’re anything like most people, or maybe just if you’re anything like me, there’s someone in your life that you’re not being very kind to. You criticize their decisions, you dismiss their feelings, you malign their choices. Before you get defensive and say you would never treat someone that way, please indulge me for two stories.
When Allyson and I were in our early teens, we decided to dye her hair. We did a…not great job. Rather than the hazelnutty brown as promised on the box, we ended somewhere nearer to jet black. Think angsty goth kid. We were then instructed by our mom to walk to the post office to check the mail. As luck would have it, her crush just so happened to drive by in his shiny pickup and pulled over to chat. She was, obviously, mortified, but they chatted for a few minutes while I checked the mail.
