Born on June 9, 1952, in Hobbs, New Mexico, Lloyd was the son of Lloyd “Sonny” Skinner and Barbara Jean Morgan. He grew up in deep East Texas but was a rambling soul with a love for the open road. For many years, he worked as a painter in the construction industry, a trade in which he took great pride until his retirement.
Lloyd’s easygoing nature made him a friend to many. He enjoyed fishing and found peace outdoors. A lifelong animal lover, he especially cherished the companionship of his dog, Ruby, who was always nearby. He was also an avid sports fan who rarely missed the chance to cheer for his favorite teams: the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Astros.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Renita Strickland; sister, Linda Page; brothers, Carl Perkins and Terry Williamson; and his nieces, Christy Dawn Wilson and Amanda Clorice Fridell.
He is survived by two loving daughters, Kristi Grantham and her husband, Justin, and Melissa Skinner; brother, Eddie Perkins; sisters, Joann Moore and Susan Strozier; and three grandchildren, Trevor Vanliew, Olivia Powell, and Colter Grantham, who brought him endless pride and joy. He also leaves behind multiple nieces and nephews who were beloved by Lloyd.
Though he will be dearly missed, Lloyd’s family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with loved ones who have gone before him. He will be remembered for his laid-back spirit and his love for life.
