District play down to the wire in local volleyball

In Tuesday night volleyball action, the New Boston Lady Lions took down Liberty-Eylau in three straight by a score of 25-19, 25-16, 25-20.

Lauren Richards was a force for the Lady Lions with eight kills and nine digs, while Lydia Barrett also made her presence known with eight kills.

Aliyah Pickens also had five kills up front and senior Bo Hurst had 17 assists and eight digs. Also making the stat sheet for New Boston were Azlynn Crider with 10 digs and a pair of aces, Na Lai Vargas with nine assists and a trio of digs and Summer Graham with eight digs, a kill and three aces from the service stripe.

The Lady Lions will be back in district action at Queen City this Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. 

The district leading DeKalb Lady Bears got one step closer to a district championship last night with a win over the Lady Rabbs of Atlanta. The Lady Bears lit up the stat sheet in the contest paced by Parker Ford with 23 points from the service stripe, including a pair of aces, and Presley Sparks who had 19 kills and 13 service points.

Also coming up huge for DeKalb were Kinley Coburn with 15 service points, senior Kaydee Brown with 13 points including an ace, senior Caylin Corbett with 12 points from the service stripe and Ashtyn Carr with 10 kills.

As a team, the Lady Bears were 98% from the service line.

The Lady Bears have two district matches left on the regular season schedule and if they run the table, they will be the district champions. They will host Redwater this Friday and then end the regular season against Liberty-Eylau next Friday.

Game time this Friday with the Lady Dragons is 4 p.m.

The Hooks Lady Hornets kept pace with the district leaders with a win last night over Redwater. The Lady Hornets celebrated their senior night with a four-set win over the Lady Dragons with a score of  25-17, 18-25, 25-21, 25-12. 

Madison Lewis had a total of 14 serving points in the match to go along with her 15 assists for yet another double-double to add to her career.

Also coming up big for the Lady Hornets were Addi Castle with 10 serving points, including a pair of aces, and Chaning Barber had a total of 13 kills. Rayya Brown had 11 kills, and DD Johnson had 10. 

Also on the stat sheet for Hooks was Sidney Haley with 20 assists, Austyn Harris had 10 digs and Keeli Harris had nine.

 The Lady Hornets are off Friday, and will return to district action next Tuesday at Queen City starting at 4:30.

 

In 2-A volleyball action last night, the James Bowie Pirates and the Maud Lady Cardinals battled for five sets with the ladies from Simms coming out as the victors with a score of 17-25, 25-23, 25-16, 16-25, 15-6.

Abigail Dial was a dynamo for the Lady Pirates in the match with 19 kills and 14 points from the service stripe, including a trio of aces. Also contributing to the James Bowie win were Alleyah Franco with 11 digs and three aces and Grace Crump with 18 kills.

The Lady Pirates will be on the road this Friday at 4:30 p.m. for a district contest with the Detroit Lady Eagles, while the Lady Cardinals will also be on the road to take on the Clarksville Lady Tigers with game time set for 4:30 p.m.
