TRMC board votes to continue further discussions regarding sale or lease of hospital

On Wednesday, October 15, the Titus Regional Medical Center (TRMC) Board of Managers convened in a conference room, flooded with concerned hospital staff and members of the community, and ultimately voted to wait and have further discussion about the possible sale or lease of the hospital.

The Board spent nearly an hour listening to public comments before going into executive session. They later reconvened and announced that they wished to honor what many people in the room echoed: to wait and further hear what the community wants for their local hospital.

Chairman of the Board, Don Lowry, told us, “This hasn’t been a short process. We’ve been working diligently for about two years. Truthfully, this started way back before COVID. We were close to naming a successful suitor, but we want to listen to the public. We listened to the physicians. We still have unanswered questions and felt like we just needed more time to go back to the suitors and get more information.”

Though it was stated during the meeting that the Board can not say which suitors they are in talks with, due to Non-Disclosure Agreements that were signed, it is known that there are two that TRMC may be sold or leased to. Remaining independent is also a choice.

More on this story will be in the next edition of the Tribune.
