I carried a tote of little candy baggies to downtown Texarkana to share with the homeless last week, not for Halloween, but for simple fall fun. Just a handful of sweetness to cut through a breezy afternoon. Nothing fancy. Chocolate, candy corn, a caramel or two. I figured a little sugar could make a long day feel shorter.
“Anybody want a treat?” I called.
A man on the bench grinned. “If sugar fixed everything, I’d be rich and toothless.”
