Thirty Years Ago 1995

October 19, 1995

Just like people look out their window to see who’s at the front door, GTE customers in a number of area cities are now able to “see” who’s calling and decide whether they want to answer the phone. GTE’s Calling Number Identification (CNID) service shows the incoming caller’s number on a phone attachment with a display window. Certain attachments can also show the time, date, and phone number of the caller.

Twenty Years Ago 2005

The Hooks School Board, at its meeting Monday night, approved an agreement between the high school FFA and the Hunters for the Hungry program. Ag teacher and meat processing advisor Danny Garrett runs the meat lab and said they will accept the donations of deer from hunters and prepare them so they can be distributed by the Texas Association of Community Action Agencies (TACCA).

Ten Years Ago - 2015

On October 16, the Avery Masonic Lodge 921 delivered free dental kits to the first graders of both Avery ISD and Detroit ISD. These kits were provided by the Texas Masonic Home and School free of charge to promote dental health in children. The kits were distributed by Avery Masons David Grigg, Duel Grigg, Bobby Broomfield, Bentley Stires, and Ken Caton.

Five Years Ago- 2020

Pictured are volunteers hard at work washing a truck at a fundraiser for the Reagan Hancock family last weekend. The fundraiser, held at NB Pharmacy, included a car wash, raffle, bounce house, and hot dog plate, and raised $8,000.00 for Reagan’s family.
