Thirty Years Ago 1995

October 26, 1995

Tina Breaux, a senior at DeKalb High School, is the grand prize winner in the “Texas Theme Design a Stamp Contest.” Tina traveled with art teacher Brenda Smith to Dallas this weekend to accept her award. Her design was chosen from around 9,000 entries across the state. The contest was sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service.

Twenty Years Ago 2005

October 26, 2005

After taking a 34-0 halftime lead, DeKalb’s Bears had no problem destroying Redwater’s Dragons at home Friday evening. The Bears scored 14 points in the opening quarter and 20 in the second to make up their halftime lead. They added seven points in the 3rd to finish things off 41-0. Overall, DeKalb had 448 yards rushing on 57 carries and 33 yards passing.

Ten Years Ago - 2015

October 28, 2015

The Hooks Hornets are an unstoppable train that continues to blow past opponents every week, with this past week’s steamroll running over the DeKalb Bears. Hooks completely controlled the game from start to finish and knocked off the visiting Bears by a final score of 35-7. The Hornets’ defense has allowed just 34 points in their last six games, including blanking Hughes Springs and Mt. Vernon.

Five Years Ago- 2020

New Boston High School grad Isaac Whittington is making a name for himself on the college fishing circuit, as he and his fishing teammate Caleb Thompson recently won first place at Bull Shoals and Big Bass. Their total weight in the win was 15.56 pounds, and their big bass weighed in at 5.24 pounds.

They made history, as this is the first time ever a team from Southern Arkansas University placed first in a fishing tournament..
