Local bands competed in the annual University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region 4 marching Assessment with high hopes of advancing. Two schools advanced to the next round.
Regional competitions were held at the Sam Parker Field in Mount Pleasant on October 14 for class 2A and October 21 for class 3A.The DeKalb High School Mighty Bear Band and Redwater High School Dragon Band both earned an overall first division.
Their first divisions mean Redwater will advance to the UILArea C open competition on Saturday in Whitehouse. If they earn first division in area, the Dragon Band will compete at the Open Class state competition on November 12 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
DeKalb performed at the state military marching competition at Baylor University in Waco Tuesday. Results for Tuesday’s competition had not been released at presstime.
Maud, James Bowie, Hooks and New Boston earned overall second division scores in the regional competitions drawing an end to their competitive marching seasons.
Upcoming band competitions include twirling on November 8 at Spring Hill High School in Longview, solo and ensemble in February and concert and sight reading in March and April.
