In their rescheduled regular meeting last week, the New Boston city council approved a purchase which will allow them to make road repairs in-house instead of using outside contractors. The council approved the purchase of a road paver and a trailer to repair roads across the city. The cost of the two items is about $268,000.
Jeffery Thompson said he did not feel like it was a good purchase, but the council approved it by three votes to one. Shaka Bowie was not in attendance.
The new equipment will be added to the city’s current road equipment to allow them to begin all roadwork without having to hire contract companies. “We’re hoping to get some of these streets under control,” said Wayne Dial, city administrator.
