Thirty Years Ago 1995

November 23, 1995

Gordon Graham and Joe Kemp were the most accurate in guessing the amount of pennies in each jar of the First National Bank of New Boston’s “Pennies Do Add Up” contest. Both winners were within three dollars of the actual dollar amount in the large jugs and received checks for the correct amount from bank president Eric Anderson.

Twenty Years Ago 2005

The DeKalb High School Majorette Line earned a Superior Rating at the UIL Regional Twirling Competition held in Longview on November 5th. The majorettes will advance to the UIL State Competition held in San Marcos in May. The line is composed of Majorette Captain Katie Burns, Jessica Stout, and Whitney Tuck.

Ten Years Ago - 2015

Coach Robert Kelsoe’s Avery Lady Bulldogs were eliminated from the state volleyball playoffs by Iola in the Regional Semi-Finals played at Longview High. The squad ended their season as the Regional Quarterfinal Champs, continuing a string of playoff appearances for Kelsoe and with senior Kaitlyn Kelsoe selected as the 172A’s Most Valuable Player.

Five Years Ago- 2020

Students and teachers alike at Hooks Elementary took the time last week to honor those who have served our country in the military. A very special drive-by parade was held as patriotic art and the American flag waved as local veterans slowly cruised past the campus.
