
Carolyn Sue Birdsong, of New Boston, Texas, passed away on November 13, 2025. She was born on November 11, 1949, in Texarkana, Texas, to James Edwards Barnes and Dorothy Nell Jones Barnes.
Carolyn devoted many years to serving her community through her work. She was a customer service manager at Walmart and had previously managed the Save Mart cash office for 20 years. Known for her strong work ethic, warm smile, and steady presence, she made lasting impressions on coworkers and customers alike.
She was of the Christian faith and lived her life with a servant’s heart. Carolyn loved her family fiercely and found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved. She was an exceptional cook and was especially known for her delicious fried pies, a treat cherished by many.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Franklin Birdsong; her parents; and two sisters, Linda Barnes and Jane Whitley.
She is survived by her daughter Kim Birdsong, her son, Chad Birdsong, and his wife, Maegan, of DeKalb, Texas; two grandchildren, Blake Birdsong of Texarkana, Texas, and Bailey Birdsong of DeKalb, Texas; one sister, Debbie Bookout, and her husband, Donnie, of Cooper, Texas; a brother-in-law, Bic Whitley of Horatio, Arkansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Services will be held on Tuesday, November 18th, at 10:00 a.m. at Bates Family Funeral Home in DeKalb, Texas, with Brother Justin Coburn officiating.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 17th, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Bates Family Funeral Home.
Interment will follow at Old Union Cemetery in Simms, Texas.
Carolyn’s love, kindness, and the warmth she brought into every room will be remembered always.
