Safety concern at DISD resolved by administration and law enforcement

Safety concern at DISD resolved by administration and law enforcement

A safety concern at DeKalb High School has been addressed and resolved by district officials.

A statement issued this morning by DISD Superintendent Dr. Donna McDaniel reads:

December 17, 2025
Parents and Staff

I want to share important information regarding a safety
incident involving DHS.
Late Monday night, staff were notified of a report that a
student had brought a firearm to campus. Once the information was received,
immediate action was taken to protect all students and staff. The individual
involved did not return to school following the report.

The DHS principal and the DeKalb ISD Chief of Police worked
diligently throughout the investigation. Their efforts resulted in the confiscation
of the firearm off campus and the arrest of the suspect this morning. At no
time was a direct threat made towards students or staff. The individual will be
banned from all DeKalb ISD campuses and has been turned over to Juvenile
Detention Services and the legal system.

Please know this: your most prized possession – your children
– are our most prized possession as well. We take matters of safety with the
utmost seriousness and will always act swiftly to protect our students and
staff.
We ask for your continued partnership. Parents and teachers,
please encourage students to report any concerns, threats, or suspicious
behavior immediately. Speaking up can make a critical difference in keeping
everyone safe.

At DeKalb ISD, we take every report of this nature seriously
and remain fully committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning
environment. The safety of our students remains our highest priority, and we
will continue to be vigilant in enforcing and strengthening our safety
protocols to protect the well-being of our students and staff.

Thank you for your trust, cooperation, and support as we
continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our school community.

Sincerely,
Donna C. McDaniel, Ph.D.
DeKalb ISD Superintendent
