New Boston SIDC hosts event to promote business community

An event slated to improve the business climate of New Boston, and all of Bowie County, is scheduled for Thursday, January 22nd at 10 a.m., at the Three Boston’s Museum. Texarkana Chamber of Commerce business retention and expansion specialist Hillary Cloud will be providing an overview of the ACT Work Ready Community Program.

This is an exciting item the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce is heading up to assist with labor and skills for manufacturing and warehousing for Bowie County.

With the pending growth of the area and the potential for hundreds of new jobs available locally, New Boston SIDC/CDC Executive Director Lee Elliott believes the ACT Work Ready Community Program could be a catalyst for Elliott stated, “The Texarkana Chamber of Commerce is regionally heading up the ACT Work Ready Community program for Miller County and Bowie County. We have partnered with them to help our local businesses and workforce. Mrs. Cloud is the director for this program. The ACT Work Ready Community program positions cities and counties at the forefront of what the majority of industrial, manufacturing and warehousing businesses look for in economic development locations. By having the certification, you have an advantage to a community or county that does not in landing businesses. This program provides preliminary screening of employment applicants and measures the skill set before interviewing (Similar to the ACT to go to college). We want to provide this testing and certification for our local students and labor force. It will provide New Boston and Bowie County a competitive advantage in recruiting businesses, assisting current businesses and providing our workforce with an opportunity to increase their wages.”
