USPS Issues Notice Concerning Property Tax Payments/ Late Penalty

The U.S. Postal service has changed the method of how they postmark outgoing mail. Previously, mail was postmarked the day the postal service received it. Now, mail goes through an automatic sorter, which may postmark mail several days after drop-off.

The Property Tax Code requires Bowie CAD to use the postmark as the payment/ received date. The postal change could cause some payments or filings to be late and subject to penalty.

For example, if a tax payment is mailed in January, but postmarked with a February date, it will be considered late and subject to penalty.
