Brine operations scheduled to begin Wednesday

Brine operations scheduled to begin Wednesday

Due to the possibility of winter weather impacts this week, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) crews are scheduled to begin placing brine on major roadways and bridges across the nine-county Atlanta District starting Wednesday, January 21. Brine is a solution consisting of salt and water designed to help prevent ice and snow from sticking to surfaces.

The Atlanta District includes Bowie, Camp, Cass, Harrison, Marion, Morris, Panola, Titus and Upshur counties.

TxDOT crews will focus on treating interstates and U.S. highways as they are the mostly highly traveled roadways. Brine operations will be ongoing until the potential for winter weather impacts has ended.

If motorists see these moving work zones on the roads, they are encouraged to slow down, keep a safe distance and give crews room to work. Drivers should stay at least 200 feet away from these mobile work zones as equipment can engage at any time.

In the event of hazardous conditions on the road due to weather, motorists are urged to stay home if possible. If travel is necessary, drivers are advised to slow down, buckle up and stay alert. For around-the-clock highway condition updates, visit DriveTexas.org or call 1-800-452-9292.
