City of Texarkana prepares for winter weather

City of Texarkana prepares for winter weather

The City of Texarkana, Texas Public Works Department will start pre-treating streets today, Thursday, January 22nd, ahead of the expected winter weather this weekend.

Crews will focus first on areas most vulnerable to freezing, such as bridges, overpasses, low-lying or hilly sections, and critical emergency routes. Once these high-priority areas are covered, the team will extend pre-treatment to other major commercial and residential streets to help improve safety on the roads.

While pre-treating streets is a key step in preparing for winter weather, it is important to note that this is a preventive measure aimed at reducing hazardous conditions. Although it can help prevent ice buildup, it does not eliminate the possibility of icy patches or ensure that all roadways will remain clear. Motorist are urged to use caution while traveling during hazardous weather conditions.

Texarkana Water Utilities also urges residents to take steps now to winterize their homes, including covering outdoor faucets, shutting off irrigation systems, and checking for cracks around windows and door frames. A full winterization checklist is available in the attachment above.

For more information on street preparation please contact Public Works at (903) 798-3948.
