BOWIE COUNTY CELEBRATES POLL WORKERS HELPING AMERICANS VOTE

Yesterday, the Bowie County Election Office joined a national effort to recognize and recruit election officials across the nation for their critical role in helping Americans vote. Ahead of the 2026 midterms, the EAC is hosting Help America Vote Day on January 27, 2026.

The “Poll Workers Helping Americans Vote” initiative was launched by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) several years ago. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the role election workers play in our communities, our nation, and our democracy.

“Poll workers are a critical part of our election process and being a poll worker is one of the most meaningful and rewarding ways to help Americans vote.” said Pat McCoy, Bowie County Elections Administrator. “We are so lucky to have this great group of dedicated local individuals working in our community to help their friends and neighbors through the voting process.”

Poll workers are vital to the election process, but in many states and localities recruitment remains a significant challenge for election offices. A lack of poll workers could lead to fewer polling locations, longer lines, and more voter confusion.

Bowie County is always seeking individuals who are looking for a part-time job with the Election Office.  In 2026, Bowie County has six elections scheduled and needs more workers.  Locally, individuals who are interested in Poll Worker activity or being a Poll Worker can visit www.co.bowie.tx.us/page/bowie.elections  and click on the “Get Involved” banner.

The U. S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) was established by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA). It is an independent, bipartisan commission charged with ensuring secure, accurate, and accessible elections by developing guidance to meet HAVA requirements, adopting voluntary voting system guidelines, and serving as a national clearinghouse of information on election administration. The EAC also accredits testing laboratories and certifies voting systems, as well as administers the use of HAVA funds. For more information, visit www.eac.gov.

The mission of the Bowie County Election office is to provide an opportunity for every eligible Bowie County citizen to register to vote and to provide County residents with elections that are safe, secure, and accurate with the highest level of integrity and transparency.
