Habitat for Humanity makes family happy in Hooks
Tribune photo by Susan Lindsey Sonya Lummus and her grandchildren, Norah, Neven and Braylon Patterson along with Habitat for Humanity Texarkana Executive Director Molly Riley and Board Chair Theresa Baker break ground at the site of what will be the new Lummus-Patterson home in Hooks Saturday. The family was selected to receive a new home built by Habitat for Humanity Texarkana. Habitat for Humanity helps low- to moderate-income families receive affordable, energy-efficient homes.

A Bowie County family broke ground in Hooks Saturday on what will be their new home thanks to Habitat for Humanity Texarkana.

Sonya Lummus said that when she gained custody of her three grandchildren, siblings 10-year-old Norah, 14-year-old Neven and 16-year-old Braylon Patterson, the family could not continue living in the home she was renting.

“I live in a little, bitty two bedroom house and my income is not very high because it’s just me. And my house is falling down … The boys share a bedroom and Norah shares a room with me,” Lummus said.
