According to an official report issued by the Texas Department of Transportation:
On March 6, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on US Highway 82 west of DeKalb in Bowie County.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a white 2000 Toyota Carolla was traveling westbound on US Highway 82. For an unknown reason, the vehicle left its lane, traveled into the oncoming lane of traffic, and struck multiple other vehicles.
The driver of the Toyota Carola, identified as 70-year-old Connie Stevens of Avery, Texas, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two other drivers involved in the crash sustained injuries. One child passenger also sustained injuries. They were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
