Manhunt for Red River County man ends with capture in DeKalb

Manhunt for Red River County man ends with capture in DeKalb
Law enforcement officers from various agencies take Chad Hernandez into custody Sunday following a manhunt that ended in DeKalb.

A weekend-long, multi-agency search for a Red River County man wanted for felony probation violation ended Sunday afternoon in DeKalb.

The search for Chad Hernandez, 34, of Avery, ended after three days in DeKalb when Precinct 2 Constable and DeKalb Independent School District Chief Chad Ford spotted the fugitive hiding near a local business.

“By happenstance I was washing my truck at the car wash and I happened to see him walking between the dollar store and the car wash. So I called it in,” Ford said. “Then he was crouched down behind the ac unit at the dollar store. When he saw us closing in, he took off running. After a three mile foot chase, we caught up to him.”
