DeKalb man arrested for sexual assault of teen

A 31-year-old DeKalb man was arrested for allegedly forcing himself on a teenage coworker after she gave him a ride home from work in October.

Aaron Deshawn Handy, 31, was taken into custody by DeKalb Police Department on March 23 charged sexual assault, a second degree felony.

The case has been assigned to the 5th District Court with Judge Bill Miller presiding. Handy is being represented by the Bowie County Public Defenders Office.

If found guilty, Handy faces two to 20 years in a Texas prison, a $10,000 fine and a lifetime registration as a sex offender.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim, who was 17 years old at the time of the alleged assault, agreed to drive Handy to his Houston Street home in DeKalb after work at a fast food restaurant.

The restaurant’s general manager told investigators that he had attempted to talk her out of driving Handy home “due to safety concerns,” the probable cause affidavit said.

Handy and the teen got off of their shift from the restaurant and left together about 10:30 p.m. on October 14, which was corroborated by surveillance footage. However, the victim stated Handy was driving and refused to give her control of the vehicle. She told officers Handy drove her to his home telling her she could see his dogs and play pool at his residence, the affidavit said. At the residence, the teen said Handy allegedly forced her into a chair, stripped her of her clothing and forcibly assaulted her, holding her down by her shoulders and legs as she repeatedly said no and physically resisting, the affidavit said.

The teen then said Handy told her not to tell anyone about what had happened before she left the home, the affidavit said.

A coworker told officials the teen had called by video chat and told her of the alleged assault.

A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) examination was completed and the teen’sclothing was preserved as evidence.

Evidence from the SANE examination found DNA which matched a male profile. Handy’s DNA has been sent to the crime lab for additional testing.

Three days after the alleged assault, DPD officers executed a warrant on Handy’s home and located the shirt described by the teen. When he was taken into custody, Handy allegedly asked officers, “So what does the T-shirt have to do with force?”

Handy told authorities the teen visited the house to play pool, the affidavit said.

Handy was taken to the Bi-State Justice Center jail and bond was set at $100,000.
