Outdoors Briefs TPWD Commission approves hunting reg changes, South wins another ‘Open

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved a laundry list of changes to the 2026-27 Statewide Hunting and Migratory Game Proclamations during its March 26 meeting in Austin. The changes are as follows: More Doe Days Deer hunters in 21 counties in the southern Post Oak and parts of south-central Texas will see an expansion in “doe days” from four days to 16 days next season.

The 16-day season will begin on the second Saturday of the general season and run through the Sunday following Thanksgiving.

Counties or parts of counties impacted include: Austin, Bastrop, Wilson, Caldwell, Colorado, Comal (east of IH 35), DeWitt, Fayette, Goliad (north of U.S. Highway 59), Gonzales, Guadalupe, Hays (east of IH 35), Jackson (north of U.S. Highway 59), Karnes, Lavaca, Lee, Travis (east of IH 35), Victoria (north of U.S. Highway 59), Waller, Washington and Wharton (north of U.S. Highway 59).
