Several New Boston teachers were awarded more than $35,000 in grants at a district-wide teacher’s appreciation pep rally Friday afternoon.
The New Boston Education Foundation presented 23 classroom instructional grant checks to teachers at New Boston Independent School District. The grants will be used to purchase materials for the classrooms that will improve the learning experiences of New Boston students.
“I am very grateful for the hard work that the education foundation board puts in to make these grants possible. It is wonderful to see those resources going back into the classrooms to help our teachers and students. All supplies and materials purchased through our grants stay with the classroom so they are beneficial to the New Boston school district for years to come,” said Kayla Simmons, NB Education Foundation president.
The NB Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that raises funds to support innovative educational programs throughout the district through annual fundraisers like Bougie Bingo and the Golf Scramble. They also work with local businesses, like Waste Management, to provide additional grant funding for school projects and improvements.
“These ladies have regular jobs and families but they donate their time and go out into the community to make this happen for our teachers. We as a district wouldn’t be able to provide all of this for our teachers, but this just goes to show what the collaboration between educators and the community can do,” said Brian Bobbitt, NBISD superintendent.
