Bowie County high school student-athletes showed up and showed out at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region 2 track and field competitions. Athletes from four schools advanced to the state level competitions that will be held in Austin this weekend.
DeKalb’s Wesley Baxley, Ashtyn Carr and Selina Espinoza; Hooks’ Rayya Brown; and Redwater’s Ashlin McRight, Kylee Rowland advanced in 3A competitive events. Simms’ Abigail Dial and Tatum Tyndall advanced to represent the area in 2A.
Dial took top billing in the girls 300 meter hurdles event with a time of 44.96 seconds, beating her first-seed qualifying time by just under two seconds.
