For a second year, a Bowie County standout stood atop the podium and was awarded a silver medal in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) state track and field competition in Austin.

After coming off a week-long injury, Hooks High School’s Rayya Brown had a throw of 41 feet, 3 inches to take second in the Class 3A girls shot put. She took the same spot just a year prior with a throw 1 foot and 1 inch farther last year. Her commanding performances throughout the season have the junior athlete in the Top 25 hurlers across the state.

Abigail Dial from Simms just barely missed the podium finishing fourth in the Class 2A girls 300 meter hurdles. Dial finished with a time of 45.22, less than 3 seconds behind the lead and 0.02 seconds from a third place finish.
