Laura moves east, causes destruction in Louisiana

Northeast Texas and Bowie County will be spared the brunt of Hurricane Laura's broad path of destruction today.

The powerful Category 4 hurricane made landfall around 1 a.m. with devastating results. The area around Lake Charles, Lousiana and the surrounding coast bore the greatest impacts of the storm. Major roadways were closed, commercial buildings were destroyed and severely damaged, and close to half a million people are without power this morning.

The storm took a swing to the east, skirting up the Texas, Louisiana border region, bringing high winds and lots of rain as it is now making its way inland. Winds at 8 a.m. are still at 100 m.p.h.
