Bowie County sees spike in Covid-19 cases

Bowie County is currently in the middle of a major spike in Covid-19 cases, with 401 new cases reported since the first of October. That number is the largest single month increase in cases since the pandemic began in the spring of this year.

As of Thursday, the total number of cases was 1,746, up from 1,345 on October 1. Deaths from the virus have climbed, but not spiked, with the total number of Covid-19 related deaths moving from 71 to 76 since the first of the month.

That surge in cases has led to a severe strain of resources at local hospitals. St. Michael’s ICU is currently at capacity and the hospital is transporting new patients to other area hospitals, including their facilities in Longview and Tyler.
