Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued an executive order to close schools for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This includes public and private schools and colleges/universities. Abbott stated in his announcement that the state commissioner on education would determine the next course of action. Schools will continue online course actions and other means necessary to educate students, as mandated by the Texas Education Agency.
The governor also loosened some restrictions to help small businesses, with an executive order to allow retailers to operate "on the go" as part of his plan to get Texas back open for business, That order goes into effect next Friday, April 24, 2020
