Widespread allegations of vote tampering, ballot box mishandling and racial bias have surfaced in Bowie County since the March 3 primary election, with the Tribune receiving multiple complaints from voters ranging from polling place location to verbal harassment by polling place election officials.
Multiple election complaints have been filled out and are being filed with the Texas Secretary of State Elections Division, citing a plethora of issues with casting votes, with an overwhelming percentage of the complaints being filed by African American voters in the DeKalb area.
For example, one complaint form states that the voter entered the polling location at Oak Grove and told election judges there that they were there to vote for two candidates, George Huggins and Kyle Barrett. According to the complaint form, this particular voter was told “you would have to vote Democrat, you can’t vote Republican” and “you shouldn’t vote for Barrett anyway.” This voter was also allegedly told if they voted for Huggins and Barrett, they could not vote Democrat in the general election in November.
