County judge calls for common sense to quell virus

County judge calls for common sense to quell virus

Local county and Texarkana city officials gathered at the Ark-Tex Council of Governments to host a media briefing on Wednesday, March 18th, 2020.

County Judge Bobby Howell initiated and signed a Declaration of Local Disaster due to public health emergency for Bowie County, Texas. Texarkana, Texas Mayor Bob Bruggeman also signed a Declaration of Disaster at the same meeting. This will allow the city and the county to access additional funds if needed. Under the Declaration of Disaster for the city of Texarkana they are now strongly recommending a voluntary curfew from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. for any person under the age of 18, not in the company of a parent or guardian, unless they are traveling to or from work or for a reasonable emergency situation.
