Christmas Eve fire destroys several homes in New Boston

A multi-unit fire broke out this morning at a complex of homes at New Boston Property Management, in New Boston, with at least five homes destroyed, but no injuries or loss of life.

The blaze broke out in Unit 6, on North Lindsey Street and fire departments and emergency services from around Bowie County responded. On the scene were New Boston VFD, Maud VFD, C-5 and the Simms VFD, plus Lifenet and local law enforcement.

New Boston Fire Chief Deborah Atkinson was in charge at the scene, and the combined effort of all of the agencies kept the blaze from spreading any farther than it did. New Boston Police Investigator George Huggins, Jr. told the Tribune that the fire was believed to have been started by a resident burning potpourri. An investigation into the cause of the Christmas Eve blaze is pending.
