A Texarkana College Foundation donor understands the importance of making dual credit course available to all qualifying high school students in Bowie County- including students who may not be able to afford the enrollment costs. Katie Andrus, TC Foundation director said the generous grant from a TC donor will make participation in dual credit courses more attainable for students who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program.
“Costs associated with dual credit enrollment have proven to be a barrier for economically disadvantaged students around the state including TC’s service area,” said Andrus. “While already significantly discounted compared to a traditional college course, the cost of dual credit courses to economically disadvantaged students is still prohibitive to most. Students interested in enrolling in dual credit courses should let their high school counselor know they would like to apply for the scholarship. Dual credit scholarships are available for eligible students for both academic and workforce courses.”
Dual credit courses, delivered through partnerships between high schools and colleges, offer high school students the option to take college-level courses on their own campus at a fraction of the cost of typical university tuition. Students simultaneously earn high school and college credit, saving college-bound students thousands of dollars in tuition and valuable time toward degree completion.
