The Hooks Hornets and DeKalb Bears met for the second time this season in last week’s district matchup at DeKalb High School. The Bears came into the game looking for redemption after a run-rule loss to the Hornets in late March, the Hornets looking to secure a spot as undefeated district champions.
Runs came early for the Hornets, Hayden Davis scored in the first inning on an error by the Bears. De Kalb had an answer in the bottom of the first, a line drive hit by Cameron English pushed Colte Baxley across home plate.
The next run of the night came in the top of the second when Logan Baker scored for the Hornets on a fly ball by Matthew Hays and another De Kalb error. With the score 2-1 in the bottom of the second, bats went cold for both teams. Scoring would not continue until the top of the seventh when Hooks found its rhythm again.
