The Bowie County Commissioners Court held a special meeting on Thursday, February 1, 2018 to accept the resignation of Bowie County Tax Assessor/Collector Treva Braley.  Braley has served as Tax Assesor/Collector since July 1, 2015 when Toni Barron retired.  Braley was not present at the meeting, but in her resignation letter, cited medical issues as her reason for stepping down.
Upon unanimously accepting Braley’s resignation, the court then voted, also unanimously, to appoint Ramona Dawson Norman as Bowie County’s new Tax Assessor/Collector.  Norman has been employed by the Tax Assessor’s office since January of 1998, and most recently held the position of Chief Deputy from 2012 until the time of her appointment to Tax Assessor/Collector.
Precinct 3 Commissioner James Strain expressed his appreciation to Norman for agreeing to take the job.  “I am so thankful we have someone that’s willing to step up,” he said.
Dawson was sworn in by Judge Carlow immediately following the meeting.
