It was a banner weekend for local sports with a host of teams advancing to the next round of the UIL playoffs.

The New Boston Lady Lions swept Harmony in two games to advance to the Area round next.

Game One of the series, played late Friday night in Paris, was all on the arm of ace hurler Morgan McAlexander, as the Lady Lion pitcher threw a near perfect game. McAlexander allowed no hits and no runs and struck out 15. She had just two walks and a hit by pitch in a stellar performance on the hill.

At the plate, Alaysia Henderson had four hits and Angel Evans rocked the yard with three hits and four RBI’s to boost the ladies to an 11-0 win.

In Game Two this afternoon, the Lady Lions closed it out with McAlexander back on the mound to earn a second straight W.

Henderson, Alexis Morden and Grace Duffer each had three hits in the contest and Evans stayed hot with a three run blast over the fence in the 1st inning to fuel the Lady Lions 7-3 victory.

The Lions also took their series in two straight with back to back wins over Paris Chisum.

In Game One, hurler Jacob Bobbitt was too much for the Mustangs allowing two runs and striking out six in five innings of work on the mound.

At the plate, the Lions blew the game open with eight runs in the 2nd, and ended the game with 11 hits.

In Game Two on Saturday, the boys from New Boston earned their Bi-District Championship, closing out Chisum 4-3.

In other action, the Hooks Hornets advanced with a two game sweep of Elysian Fields, and the Avery Lady Bulldogs moved on with a 6-4 win over Harmony.

The Redwater Lady Dragons saw their season come to a close with losses to New Diana on Friday and Saturday.
