The Manna Kitchen is hustling and bustling these days.  Under new management since Labor Day, new director Sue Anderson says they’ve gone from providing meals for just over 50 people, to now 80.  Volunteers work diligently on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to cook, package, and deliver meals to local residents who are unable to cook for themselves.

Sue Anderson says her new role as director of Manna Kitchen was not something she expected to take on at all.
“I went to the kitchen to volunteer one day, and afterwards I just felt led to take on a bigger role,” she said.  “It was something the Lord was just calling me to do, and I tried to resist it at first, but now I am so glad I listened to the calling.  It has been the biggest blessing.  The Lord said to me ‘If you are willing, I will provide,’ and He has.  There have been days when I didn’t know if we were going to have enough to feed everyone, but the Lord has found a way for us, and continues to do so.”

Food donations are always welcome at the Manna Kitchen.
While all non-perishable food items are put to use, larger cans (No. 2) size are easier to handle when feeding the large numbers that the Manna Kitchen deals with.
The Manna Kitchen also works in conjunction with the Chapel of Light Food Pantry, and any items not used by Manna Kitchen are sent there, to be handed out to those who have the financial need, but are able to prepare meals for themselves, all in an effort to minister.
While recent food drives by law enforcement and local boy scouts have bolstered the Manna Kitchen’s inventory, since they operate solely from donations, monetary donations are always needed for purchase of perishable items, utilities, and paper products specific to packaging the meals in a way they can most easily be transported.  And with the number of those served growing rapidly, another pressing need is for delivery drivers.

If you would like to donate to the Manna Kitchen, or for information on how to volunteer, more information can be obtained by calling the Manna Kitchen during operating hours (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 5 a.m. - 9 a.m.) at (903)628-2444 or by calling Sue Anderson directly at (903)748-6741.
