TC Notes-Stay Connected with Texarkana College through Social Media Platforms

For many college students, Instagram provides an ideal way to share their lives with their friends—and for many prospective college students, Instagram is a great way to gauge what daily life is like at the colleges or universities they’re considering attending.
To be a part of that conversation, Texarkana College has added a new voice to its social media strategy: student Instagrammer Harper McKnight, a general studies major with a passion for digital communication. For the past semester, Harper has documented Texarkana College life at @txkcollege from a student’s perspective, with engaging stories and candid profiles of students and employees. Beyond Instagram, Harper also had the opportunity to ride along and interview Texas State Rep. Gary VanDeaver as he took the first Uber ride in Texarkana from the TC campus earlier this semester.

There is hope in the battle

By Heather Russell
Staff Reporter

Kitty Waddell, wife and mother of two, was diagnosed with incurable liver cancer in 2002.  Her case was so rare, that doctors in Texarkana referred her to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where even doctors there had only ever treated a few cases like hers.  By 2008, Waddell had undergone two different liver surgeries and doctors were confident they had the growth of her cancer under control, when a regular mammogram showed three abnormalities in one of her breasts.  Just hours later, an ultrasound and biopsies confirmed that Kitty had breast cancer.
