Rock Solid Resources returning to New Boston
Rock Solid Resources, a support group focused on helping those in western Bowie County with basic needs, recently purchased a brick and mortar location in downtown New Boston, to better serve the area. Executive Director of Rock Solid Resources, Robert Little, says “This building gives us the ability to settle in one place and grow and expand into the areas we need to.” “The space we were previously in did not allow us the needed room to establish programs to help those around us,” said Little. “Our new location, located at 201 East Main Street, is permanent so now we can start to plan for the future knowing this is where we will be.” “When we went and looked at the building, I walked in and immediately just was not feeling it,” said Little. “By the time I walked out, I turned to my wife and said ‘Okay, I was wrong, this is the building for us.’” “I immediately got on the phone with James Sparks, pastor of First Baptist Church in DeKalb, and I said, ‘James, I am sitting here looking at the building and I think we want to make an offer on it.’” said Little. “I then asked, ‘If I make an offer on the building, do you think that the Bowie Baptist Association would want to make the down payment?’” “James told me he thought the Association would and we began to talk numbers,” said Little.

The Gilmer Mirror published an article later printed in the Gazette on July 30, 1897. In this publication, Gilmer noted, “One of the greatest men in Southern history was Jefferson Davis, late president of the confederacy…. His memory should be honored in every way, and we are therefore happy to know that our friend Prof. W.S. Burks has chosen this illustrious name for his new college at Pittsburg, Texas.”

Fraudulent QR Codes Continue to be Used by Scammers
Companies use Quick Response (QR) Codes to point consumers to their apps, pay parking meters, track packages, view menus and more. But because these codes can’t be read by the human eye, they have become a new way for scammers to disguise malicious links. As QR codes grow in usage, BBB Scam Tracker is seeing more reports of con artists using them to mislead consumers. “Something to always keep in mind,” Mechele Agbayani Mills, President and CEO of BBB Serving Central East Texas said. “Is that whenever new technology grows in popularity, scam artists will capitalize on that trend.” Where fraudulent QR codes have been found recently: Parking meter payments. Be on the lookout for fake QR codes on the back of parking meters designed to lure victims away from the legitimate payment portal.
