Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week
This week’s Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week is Da’Marcis Franklin of New Boston. Da’Marcis is a 17-year-old student at New Boston High School who joined the team for his first Special Olympics this year. He participates in the 50-meter dash and the turbo javelin throw at the spring track and field events as well as plays on the fall softball team. Da’Marcis played football as a freshman and enjoys watching professional football and basketball. His favorite players, he says, are Stephen Curry and CeeDee Lamb. Da’Marcis said he loved attending both the competitions in Cedar Hill and San Antonio for the first time because he got to meet a lot of new people he now calls his friends. He said when he first got there, he was nervous because of how many people were there. But he is now excited to attend in the future.

Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week
This week’s Bowie’s Best Athlete of the Week is Timothy Hickmott, of New Boston. Timothy is an incoming senior at New Boston High School and first time competitor in the 2023 Special Olympics games. He participates in the 50 meter dash and the softball throw in the spring games and will be playing for the softball team in the fall. As the middle of three brothers, his mom describes the 17-year-old as the “class clown.” She says he is always trying to make people laugh with a prank or joke. Before moving to New Boston, Timothy and his family lived in West Texas where his mom homeschooled the three boys. Timothy says he is excited about returning to the games next year to see the new friends he made and winning more medals.
