NBISD set to make facility improvements
The New Boston ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously at their regular monthly meeting on December 17, 2018 to fund some much needed improvements to the high school facilities. Work will begin soon on the high school auditorium to update the sound system, stage lighting, and curtains, and the gym will get a new sound system as well. Superintendent Brian Bobbitt says the upgrades have been a long time coming. “The auditorium was built in 1985, and though it has been very well maintained, there have been no updates since that time. We are continuously looking at our facilities and evaluating needs, and we determined that the auditorium and gym serve many students on multiple campuses and host many community events, and it is important to us that they accommodate the needs of our students and community in the best way possible,” stated Bobbitt.
Currently, the built-in sound system in both facilities is non-functional and portable systems have to be brought in for events that require a PA. One Act Play students have, at times, had to practice at other venues, due to the outdated lighting and curtain systems. These improvements will change all of that.
The work will be done by Texarkana Pro Sound, and upon completion, the auditorium will not only be more functional, but will meet all the specs and requirements to host One Act Play competitions. “We have a great One Act Play program and a great band program, both of whom require the use of the auditorium. All these kids deserve the best we can give them,” Bobbitt went on to say.
High school principal Neil Koenig says he is excited about the upcoming project. “I am a big promoter of the fine arts programs here at NBHS,” he said. “This is going to benefit everyone, and I am behind it 100%.”
The work is expected to be completed this Spring, in time for concert and banquet season.
