Yard of the Month
The Yard of the Month (May 2021) award was presented by the Dogwood Garden Club of New Boston to Lisa Thomas of 203 E. Runnels, New Boston. The variety of plantings is spectacular and quite a sight to see. There are several beds in the front yard, bordered by stacked stone. Within the beds you will find yellow (Stella de Oro) Day Lilies, Hostas both in the ground and potted (one potted and in the ground), Silver Smith, Purple Jew, Shasta Daisies, Oxalis, Purple Fringe (Lorapetalum), orange Cannas, a potted Rubber Tree, Adams Needle Variegated Yucca, Fountain Grass, Althea (Rose of Sharon), Wave Petunias ready to cascade from an old wash tub, sweet potato vine growing from a hole in the tree that will eventually cover the bed. Holly hedges interspersed with sculptured Yaupon shrubs wrap the house on 3 sides. Under these shrubs is Asiatic Jasmine groundcover. Down the east side of the yard as well as the back is a work in progress, as explained by Lisa. There are 3 Clematis Vines, Blue Star ground cover in a wheel barrow, Strawberry Begonias, to name just a few of the plantings. Hanging from trees are two large ostrich feeders filled with corn for the squirrels. Trumpet Vines and Wisteria surround the swimming pool. A bed along the back fence is reserved for elephant ears. Lisa's hard work is truly on display, giving her a landscape to be proud of. For more photos check out the Dogwood Garden Club of New Boston on Facebook.
