Charles Anthony "Charlie" Powell

Charles Anthony "Charlie" Powell of De Kalb, Texas passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Baylor, T. Boon Pickens Cancer Center in Dallas, Texas.  He was 74. 

 

Charlie was born February 6, 1947 in De Kalb, Texas to Melvin D.C. and Mary Jacqueline Pope Powell.  He was a retired Major of Correctional Officers with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Institutional Division and a retired Painting Inspector with Red River Army Depot.  Charlie was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp having served in Vietnam and a member of the Disabled American Veterans Organization.  He was of the Baptist faith. 

 

He was preceded in death by his father D.C. Powell and one sister Paulette Powell.  

 

He is survived by his wife, Christy Powell of De Kalb, Texas; his mother, Jacqueline Powell of De Kalb, Texas; one son, Broz Keith Powell of Leary, Texas; one daughter, Kelli Rene Powell of New Boston, Texas, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon Ann and Dan Norwood of  Scroggins, Texas, Jeanette and Gerald Dan Thomas of  Simms, Texas, and Janie and Rick Bishop of Simms, Texas; five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Roger and Barbara Powell of  Nash, Texas, Johnny and Charlotte Powell of De Kalb, Texas, Bryan and Kelly Powell of De Kalb, Texas, Dennis Powell of De Kalb, Texas, and David Timothy Powell of Wake Village, Texas; three grandchildren, Broz Keith Powell, Jr., Blaze Kendall Powell, and David Drew Mangus; and numerous other relatives and friends.

   

Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas with Robby Bates and Dan Thomas officiating.  Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery in De Kalb, Texas. 

 

Visitation will be held 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.

 

Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
