MARY JOHNSON CAUGHEY
Mary “Carolyn” Johnson Caughey, age 73, of Austin, Texas, passed on from this life on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at St. David’s Hospital in Austin, Texas.
She was born in Alto, Texas on August 10, 1946, the daughter of Steve “SA” Johnson and Fay McLain Johnson. Her mother preceded her in death.
Carolyn married Dan Caughey on September 16, 1965, she and Dan were married for almost 55 years. Dan and Carolyn made eleven trips to the Virgin Islands and decided to move there in 1999, returning after five years to the states in 2004. Carolyn was a loving and gifted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She loved the law, and received her associates’ degree to become a Certified Paralegal and made that her career for fifteen years. She continued to read and keep up with legal decisions and legal matters all her life. She and Dan were also in the restaurant business for over twenty years. Carolyn worked tirelessly with drug and alcohol dependent adults and adolescents. More than 100 kids called her Mom. She never talked about this part of her life, but she just gave her love and support to those in need. Carolyn had no religious affiliation, but believed in the loving God and was a model of Jesus Christ’ teachings, that we should all love and help those in need. She loved the beach and sailing, she was a licensed boat Captain, sailing boats up to 50’ in length. She loved to read, spend time with her grandchildren, music and to dance, she took ballet lessons for years. She loved life and put into it more than most.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Dan Caughey of Austin, TX; her father, Steve “SA” Johnson of New Boston, TX; two sons and daughter-in-law, Todd and Jeana Caughey of Franklin, Tennessee, and Garrett Caughey of Mechanicsburg, PA; her grandchildren, McKenna Caughey, Kelton Caughey, Grayson Caughey and Crosby Caughey; one brother and sister-in-law, Steve Jr. and Vicky Johnson of Georgtown; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mable and Mike Foster of Wyley, Texas, and Judi and Mark Downs of New Boston, TX; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Carolyn will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 28, 2019, in the Faith Baptist Church 301 N Bowie, New Boston, Texas.
