Velma Jean Phillips, 90, of De Kalb, Texas passed away Friday, June 28, 2019 at a local care facility. 

Jean was born January 31, 1929 in Konawa, Oklahoma to Stewart and Lilly Hensley Foran.  She was the Co-Owner and Bookkeeper for Phillips Lumber Company and a Licensed Vocational Nurse.  Jean was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist and was involved in the De Kalb Professional Business Women’s Organization, the De Kalb Garden Club and the De Kalb Chamber of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cecil Roy Phillips; one brother, Bob Foran; and one sister, Wanda Hall.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Roger Gray of Mineola, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Reggie and Betty Phillips of De Kalb, Texas and Chuck and Paige Phillips of De Kalb, Texas; one brother, Jim Tryon of De Kalb, Texas; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends. 
Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, June 30, 2019, at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas with Pastor Joe McWilliams and Pastor Adrian Solis officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodmen Cemetery in De Kalb, Texas.
