Lions steal extra inning game from Redwater
In an exciting district contest last night in New Boston, the Redwater Dragons rallied to score three times in the top of the 7th to send the game into extra innings, but the host Lions notched a run in their half of the 8th to win the game 4-3.
Going into their half of the 8th, the Lions led off with a single by Connor Bobbit, followed by a single from Kyle Atkinson. With two on, Brian Reid was hit by a pitch to load the bases and then Bobbit stole home to score the winning run.
Southern Illinois commit Brian Reid earned another win on the hill for New Boston as he went the distance, allowing three runs on 11 hits and striking out seven.
With the bats, New Boston benefited from multi-hit games from Atkinson and Reid. Will Henson and Landon Yeatman had clutch RBI’s for the Lions.
At the plate for Redwater, Riley Drew was 3-for 4 in the game and Skeet Roberts and Hunter Morse had RBI hits.
Also last night, the James Bowie Pirates won their third straight, as they manhandled Linden-Kildare to a final score of 14-1.
It was the second straight stellar pitching performance for James Bowie hurler Zane DeBerry. DeBerry tossed a no-hitter in his last outing, and held L-K to just one run on three hits last night to earn the win on the hill.
At the plate, the Pirates carved up a Tiger charcuterie board of hits with a dozen in the game, including a pair of hits and four RBI’s from Slade Burnett and a four hit night for DeBerry. The Pirates also had multi-hit games from the bats of Whitt Rogers and Brandon Obenoskey.
In other baseball action Tuesday night, the DeKalb Bears were blanked 11-0 by Atlanta and the Maud Cardinals scored twice in the 5th and again in the 6th to rally and earn a 5-3 win over Rivercrest.
Nate Brower was 2-for-3 with three RBI’s to lead the offensive efforts of the Cardinals. Tucker Sanders notched the win on the hill for Maud as he allowed just three runs on six hits and struck out six in a complete game effort.
