Pirates win series opener over Maud

The James Bowie Pirates got the jump on their rival Maud Cardinals last night in the first game of their best-of-three series at Texas High.

The two local teams are challenging each other to advance to the next round of the State UIL baseball playoffs and a Regional Quarterfinal crown.

On Thursday night, The Pirates took Game One of the series, as a walk in their half of the 7th inning gave them the walk-off win at 5-4.

Evan Barron earned the win on the hill for James Bowie, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out 14 Cardinals.

At the plate, Whitt Rogers had a pair of hits and an RBI to lead the Pirates and Cade Townsend was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI’s for the Cards.

The two teams will face off again tonight at Texas High, with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.

Game Three will follow if necessary.
