When I was six, I fainted on the first day of school, falling from the porch in front of the old school and landing behind the hedge. Yes, I came up missing that day. I’d forgotten to breathe!

A&M-Texarkana Awarded $34,000 Grant by Partners of the Americas Foundation
Texas A&M University- Texarkana was recently awarded a $34,000 grant by the Partners of the Americas Foundation as a part of their 100k Strong in the Americas program. Funded by the U.S. State Department, CAF: Development Bank if Latin America, and MinCiencias (Colombia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation), these new 100K Strong partnerships will support innovative, inclusive training and exchange programs for students and faculty in strategic areas, including climate solutions, sustainable energy, digital transformation, health, creative industries, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), among others.

“A Camel in the Desert”
Sometimes each of us needs a little rest. A friend wrote from the Mid-East about his village’s she-camel. (No, I do not know the proper veterinary term for a pregnant camel, but our friend does. He’s a veterinarian, serving God by helping villagers with their goats, sheep, cattle, and this camel.) This she-camel disappeared from the village several months ago and then appeared at the town dump, munching on whatever.

State Sales Tax Revenue Totaled $3.8 Billion in September
Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today said state sales tax revenue totaled $3.79 billion in September, 2.8 percent more than in September 2022. The majority of September sales tax revenue is based on sales made in August and remitted to the agency in September.

A&M-Texarkana Police Department Earns Best Practices Re-accreditation from Texas Police Chiefs Association
The Texas A&M University- Texarkana University Police Department (UPD) recently earned Best Practices re-accreditation through the Texas Police Chief’s Association. The accreditation process is lengthy and exceptionally thorough, according to Texarkana Texas Assistant Police Chief Shawn Fitzgerald, who is on the nine-person Accreditation Committee and presented the award to UPD Chief Alex Serrano.
