The batter’s box of life
When I moved to Texas as a single mom in 1982, I did my best to ensure my son, Marty, a mere first-grader, made new friends. I wanted him to belong, to not feel alone in our new place. So, one day at JC Penney’s, he was picking out a new ball glove for his team. And I touched the adult gloves, sliding my right hand into one. The memories flooded back, and my fingers melted inside the molded spots inside the glove.

Happy New Year
Hello everyone! I hope you had a great Christmas! Even though lots of presents were open and parties were had, I hope you remembered the real gifts of Christmas: family, friends, peace and joy, love,And most of all JESUS! We’re so blessed with these gifts and we sometimes forget that we need to remember that these are the gifts that are really truly blessings. Clothes, shoes, and trips are great! But they are just things! We need to remember our spiritual gifts are far more important. These are the gifts that we have spiritually and in our heart. We do not have Christmas just for gifts; we have it to celebrate the birth of JESUS and commemorate the peace and joy we have from that! So this Christmas season I hope you remembered that! As we look forward to 2024, let us make it a priority to attend church.. But not just attend become involved. Join a Sunday school class, volunteer in an area of need, or use your gifts to serve others in the church and community. Jesus is waiting for you to use your gifts to reach others for Christ.

Write a story of hope
As the last moments of the old year tick away, I can’t help but sit here with my cup of coffee, warmed by the gentle East Texas breeze (weather changes fast here), reflecting on the year that has passed and the one that is about to unfold. These quiet moments remind me of our constant hope in Jesus, a hope that shines brighter with each new year.

TC Trustees recognize employee retirements, new aviation program
The Texarkana College Board of Trustees held their final meeting of 2023 on Monday. At the top of the meeting, TC president, Dr. Jason Smith, announced the retirement of Rick Boyette, TC’s Executive Director of Facilities, and Wanda Boyette, TC’s Landscape Coordinator. Dr. Smith said the Boyette team has been instrumental in oversight of building projects, capital improvements, and beautification of the campus for more than a decade. “No words can begin to be enough to thank Rick and Wanda for their service and commitment to TC,” said Dr. Smith. “Rick’s years of experience in construction, his vision for design and attention to detail, coupled with his ability to complete projects amid financial limitations and seemingly impossible deadlines, will never cease to amaze me. What Rick and his entire facilities team has accomplished for TC and this community is truly remarkable.”
